The Rialto Bioenergy Facility is a $ 185 million project built, owned and operated by Anaergia. It is one of the largest bio-processing facilities in North America, capable of converting up to 1,000 tons of wastewater biosold and landfill-diverted, organic waste up to 985,000 MMBtu per day into renewable natural gas and agricultural fertilizers. By reducing the landfill of organic waste and creating a carbon-negative fuel, the convenience net carbon dioxide emissions reduction is approximately 220,000 metric tons annually – equivalent to taking 47,500 vehicles off the road.
“We are extremely proud that the Rialto Bioenergy Facility has received this worldwide recognition, demonstrating its energy-leading ability to deliver sustainable wastewater and waste infrastructure to the 21st century.St. Centuries, and help utilities turn their biosolids into assets and reduce their carbon footprint, “said Andrew Benedack, chairman and CEO of Anergy. “Much of the world’s waste water, sludge, food scraps and other organic wastes are allowed to decompose in landfills, producing methane that escapes and adds significantly to global warming. By converting organic waste into a carbon-negative renewable fuel and high-quality fertilizer, we are not only reducing planet-warming methane emissions, we are replacing fossil fuels with renewable fuels and improving Earth’s soil health. ”
The Rialto Bioenergy facility is unique in that it co-locates the biosolid processing of wastewater with organic waste processing. The facility uses energy-owned OREX 8 technology to digest organic waste from mixed municipal waste and generates renewable natural gas (RNG) using the company’s advanced aerobic digester, which is three times more efficient than conventional digestion technology. It converts Class B biosolids into high-quality Class A fertilizers by drying, and will soon complete the addition of EnergyGy Pyrosis ™ Pyrolysis technology to produce Nutric ™ Biochar fertilizers. PyroSys ™ is a unique thermal technology that converts Class B biosolides into Class A surfaces free of PFAS and other contaminants of concern. California law now requires 75% of organic waste to be removed from landfills by 2025, and the plant will serve as a replicable reference for next year as cities and utilities work to achieve carbon neutrality goals.
