KYIV – Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shamihal said on Thursday that he and the finance ministers of seven rich countries had discussed “practical steps” to help Ukraine recover from the war with Russia.

“Ukraine protects the entire civilized world. The support of partners will accelerate our victory, “he wrote on Twitter without elaborating. “Despite Russia’s efforts to destroy our economy, we will win together!”

In a separate statement, the government said Shamihal had sought more financial assistance to cover Ukraine’s monthly budget deficit of about $ 5 billion.

“We need at least 15 15 billion over the next three months to meet these needs. For us, this is as important as the weapons you provide to fight Russian aggression, “the statement quoted Shamimhal as saying.

He also welcomed the European Commission’s offer of 9 billion euros ($ 9.51 billion) in macro-financial assistance to Ukraine.

Ukraine also expects a preliminary decision on a 40 40 billion aid package, of which up to $ 9 billion could be allocated in the budget, the statement said. (1 = 0.9468 euros) (Reporting by Natalia Genetes and Alexander Vasovic, Editing by Timothy Heritage and Angus Maxwan)
